Jacy Dyer (’11) has been named Fairfield University’s Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving beginning with the 2022-23 season. Dyer has helped develop swimmers who went on to qualify for U.S. Junior World Championships, the World University Games, as well as the Olympics.

Matthew Eberflus (’93) is the new head coach for the Chicago Bears. Eberflus had been the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator since 2018.

Johnson

*Angelica Johnson (’18 MA) has been appointed as coordinator of the teachers of color program, Like Me, at Lourdes University. As coordinator of Like Me, Johnson will work to decrease the disparity in teachers of color across our region and the country.

William V. Mars (’99 MSE, ’01 Ph.D.) received the 2022 Harold Herzlich Distinguished Technology Achievement Medal which is only awarded every other year to recognize a tire industry pioneer whose career and accomplishments have changed the industry for the better, leaving a lasting impact on tire design, development, and manufacturing. This medal is a pinnacle point in Dr. Mars’ lifetime quest to improve how rubber products are designed and brought to market.

Jessica Visser (’09, ’09, ’12 JD, ’12 JD) joined Varnum LLP as a corporate partner. During her time at UToledo, Visser worked on the closure of a concession agreement to outsource the university’s parking operations, and she worked on the university’s response to the NCAA’s new name, image and license regulations, Title IX and student conduct policies, and property divestitures following a decision to downsize the university’s physical footprint.


1960s

Charles Abood (’69) published his debut novel “Anybody’s Daughter” based on experiences during his time as a judge. The book shows how significant the issue of human trafficking is, the dangers posed by the internet and then the horrendous damage that is done to the victims.

Stuckman

Ralph Stuckman (’63 MEA) in communication with Abby Leon of the Paradigm Gallery, is designing a line of creations to be displayed in the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. The emphasis of these creations will resins, alcohol inks, and unusual shapes.

1970s

Brian Carder (’75) was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. Carder, a high school football official for 34 years, was selected to ref in the 2000 Division I state title game and then in the 2004 Division I state championship.

Stephen Pollick (’70) was inducted into the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Hall of Fame. Pollick served as the Outdoors Editor at The Blade for three decades, venturing to the corners of the globe. On assignments for this newspaper, he went to Australia, India, the Peruvian Amazon, the Czech Republic and several more countries.

1980s

**Ronald Binder (’83, ’83) was re-elected National President of Gamma Sigma Alpha (GSA) National Greek Academic Honor Society for a three-year term. GSA has 100 chapters at colleges across the US and initiates 1,500 undergraduates annually.

Wayne Drummond (’89) has been appointed as Cleveland’s 41st Chief of Police. Chief Drummond has been a member of the Cleveland Division of Police for over 33 years and has a deep understanding of the challenges, opportunities and needs of the community. While serving as the commander overseeing the City’s Fifth District, he was able to make long-lasting improvements through relationships and rapport with the community.

**Jeffrey Kuhlman (’84) has been appointed as Chief Communications Officer of Charge Enterprises. Charge is a global business with the vision of connecting people everywhere with communications and electric vehicle (“EV”) charging infrastructure. Kuhlman will be responsible for public relations, corporate communications, and marketing.

*John Muenzer (’83) recently became the oldest human to complete the Open Water Swimming Grand Slam, which includes swimming the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, the circumference of Manhattan Island and across Tampa Bay. Muenzer has been swimming competitively for as long as he can remember, having set a world record for swimming the 34 miles from Point Pelee, Ontario, to Cedar Point in 24 hours and 12 minutes.

Harry Skene (’88 JD) was hired as Luzerne county’s new chief solicitor/law division head.

1990s

Hazem El-Khatib (’95) has joined Allegheny Health Network (AHN) as Director of Cardiac Surgery at AHN Forbes Hospital. Dr. ElKhatib brings to AHN a wide range of experience in health care management and patient care, as well as expertise in a variety of advanced surgeries, including coronary bypass, mitral valve surgeries and TAVR, and minimally invasive techniques.

**Kimberlie England (’95) released a new book, Mission Next, designed to improve the transition experience for every military service member. It’s a resource that covers every aspect of the transition from the military to the civilian workforce, including checklists and tips. In addition to the book, England launched Mission Next Consulting to help service members successfully transition to the civilian workforce, and help civilian organizations attract and retain talented veterans.

Fonseca

Jennifer Fonseca (’95 ME) earned the President’s Award from the Florida Association of Colleges and Employers after serving five years on the board of directors. Fonseca recently retired from her 20-year career in higher education and transitioned to a senior life coach and trainer for Floyd Consulting.

Balsharan Grewal (’95) re-opened Arnie’s bar and restaurant next to UToledo’s main campus this summer. Grewal wanted the second iteration of Arnie’s to feel similar to the original location. The interior has a cleaner and more modern feel with subtle reminders of the original Arnie’s which stood where Westgate Village stands today.

Timothy Hall (’94) was appointed as the new athletics director at Longwood. Hall is a leader who is known and respected across the NCAA, with deep experience in every aspect of leading a modern Division I athletics department – from compliance to driving revenue to serving as a great ambassador to the campus and local community at each step in his career.

Hewitt

Christopher Hewitt (’90, ’90) has been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America for 2023 in the areas of Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law. Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. Recognition in Best Lawyers is widely regarded by both clients and legal professionals as a significant honor, conferred on a lawyer by his or her peers.

William Hopkins (’93) was recently selected as the newest member of the Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) Board of Trustees. Hopkins was also appointed to the BVHS Finance Committee.

Ken Komorny (’93) has been named Moffitt Cancer Center’s new vice president and chief
pharmacy officer. In his new role, Komorny will lead Moffitt’s pharmacy enterprise, developing best practices to provide the highest level of pharmacy care.

Jill Konen (’90) has been appointed as an associate judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit Court.

Eric Mueller (’92) has been hired as the new Chief Executive Officer of Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital Dublin. Mueller strives to make Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital a provider and employer of choice in the greater Columbus area. He will lead the Dublin team to drive positive performance results across the hospital’s clinical, financial, and overall operating capacities.

Christi Paul (’93) was hired by 3News as the CNN anchor. Paul will co-host “What’s New” at 5 p.m. and will contribute special pieces on 3News at 6 and Front Row at 7 p.m.

Karyl Rattay (’92) was selected for induction into the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame for 2022. Rattay is the former Director of Delaware’s Division of Public Health, served during the COVID pandemic and holds the longest tenure in the role. The Hall of Fame of Delaware Women was established in 1981 and is the oldest annual celebration of its kind commemorating Delaware women. Eligible women must have
been born in Delaware or resided in the state for a minimum of ten years.

2000s

Sami Rahman (’01, ’03 MSC) was named chief commercial officer for ICP Building Solutions Group (ICP BSG). Rahman is an experienced veteran of the building materials industry, and will focus on setting and executing the overall commercial strategy for ICP BSG as the company pursues its financial goals. All ICP BSG sales teams, research and development, product management and marketing will report to Rahman.

Jeanne Whalen (’08 JD) was selected for Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2022 “Influential Women of Law” list. This program is dedicated to saluting Michigan women attorneys who are setting the standard for other attorneys. The honorees have committed to excellence in the practice of law, are inspiring and accomplished leaders, serve as mentors to others, and contribute significant time and effort to volunteerism and/or pro bono initiatives.

2010s

*Reginald Gilliam (’19) a former UToledo football walk-on, has signed a contract extension with
the Buffalo Bills.

2020s

*John Randle (’22) is the new assistant superintendent of human resources and employee relations for Ann Arbor Public Schools. Randle brings a range of experiences from both the public and private sector,
previously working for Allstate Insurance Co., Avon Products, Honda of America and General Motors Corporation.
