Jacobs

**Frank D. Jacobs (Bus ’56) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in trusts and estates. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in estate planning, trust and probate.

*James Young (MA ’66) presented “Progressive Labor in Pennsylvania: Origins of the PA Social Services Union, 1969-75” at the Labor and Working-Class History Association’s annual (virtual) conference on May 27, 2021.


1970s

Gilmer, Jr.

Robert J. Gilmer, Jr. (Law ’75) has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in bet-the-company litigation. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business litigation, professional liability and labor and employment.

Grabarczyk

**Dave Grabarczyk (Ed ’72, MEd ’74, Ed Spec ’78) wrote a book titled, “Take Your Band Saw Box to the Next Level.” The book outlines how he creates his unique wooden band saw boxes. Grabarczyk is a long-time alumni Art on the Mall art show participant. He is a retired teacher from
Toledo Public Schools.

Quinlan

*Patrick Quinlan (Bus ’76, MBA ’79) retired after 38 years as a member of the business faculty at Adrian College in Michigan. Following his retirement, he was awarded faculty emeritus status and inducted to the Adrian College Faculty Hall of Fame by fellow UToledo alumnus and Adrian College Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Andrea Milner. Quinlan also received recognition as a Notable Alumnus of the Northwestern California University School of Law.

Rutkowski

Sister Rebecca Rutkowski (A/S ’78) was appointed to the board of trustees of Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She currently serves as a councilor and congregational treasurer for the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania. In 1993, Rutkowski arrived in Biloxi, Miss. and served as director of catholic social and community services. In 2002, she became the first woman appointed as chancellor for the diocese, a position she maintained until being elected to the leadership team with the sisters of St. Francis.

Tice

Ronald J. Tice (Law’ 73) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in corporate law. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business law.

Dixon

Thomas A. Dixon (Law ’82) has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in labor law – management. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in immigration, labor and employment and workers’ compensation.

Peckinpaugh, Jr.

Rudolph A. Peckinpaugh, Jr. (Law ’80) has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in medical malpractice law – management. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in product liability and professional liability.

Steven D. Reinbolt (A/S ’82) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in real estate law. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business, construction, health care and real estate.

**Daniel J. Saevig (A/S ’84, MBA ’89) was appointed to serve on the Oregon School Board in Oregon, Ohio. Saevig is the former associate vice president for the Office of Alumni Engagement.

Strong

Dr. James Strong (MBA ’84) was appointed as provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University.

Welling

Jim Welling (Ed ’88) was inducted to the Eastwood Elementary School (Pemberville, Ohio) Alumni Association’s Eagle Way Hall of Fame. He has been honored as National Coach of the Year twice and was voted into the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Welling was also inducted into the Owens Community College (Perrysburg, Ohio) Hall of Fame in 2019 and Central Catholic High School’s (Toledo) Hall of Fame in 2020.


1990s

Abercrombie

Gene R. Abercrombie (Bus ’91, Law ’96) has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in real estate law. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business, construction and real estate law.

Harper

Matthew D. Harper (Law ’92) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in commercial litigation. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in aggregates and industrial minerals, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, business litigation, construction, eminent domain and product liability.

Shaw

Mark A. Shaw (Law ’92) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in workers’ compensation law – employers. He works in the Columbus, Ohio office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in fire, casualty and catastrophic claims, labor and employment, product liability and workers’ compensation.

Wallington-Zimmann

Dr. Angela Wallington-Zimmann (Eng ’94, Honors ’94) is the vice president of institutional advancement for Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Prior to that, she served as vice president of advancement at United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg and Philadelphia, Pa.


2000s

Justin Barry (HSHS ’04) was promoted to the rank of sergeant in the patrol division of the operations bureau in the Farmington Hills, Mich. Police Department.

Dake

Tom Dake (Eng ’04) was appointed to the board of the Lorain Public Library System in Ohio. He is an adjunct faculty member with Lorain County Community College in the social sciences and human services division.

Amanda Gentry (Eng ’04) was appointed as the new director at the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate. She as also appointed as a member of the senior executive service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Huber

Chad D. Huber (Law ’07, MBA ’07) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in trusts and estates. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in estate planning, trust and probate.

Dr. Meghan Marsac (MA ’05, Ph.D. ’08) published “Afraid of the Doctor: Every Parent’s Guide to Preventing and Managing Medical Trauma.” She co-authored the book with mother-turned-advocate of a child with a rare disease, Melissa J. Hogan. Marsac is a pediatric psychologist and a tenured associate professor at the University of Kentucky and Kentucky Children’s Hospital. The book is receiving endorsements from the pediatric medical community, the Child Neurology Foundation and many more.

Adam Nightingale (Law ’05) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch in criminal defense: white-collar. He works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business, litigation, white collar crime and investigations.

Marc Paulenich (MBA ’05) was promoted to president of Hart, one of Ohio’s largest independent marketing and advertising agencies, located in Toledo.

Rimpf

**Lisa Rimpf (Eng ’03, Honors ’03, MEng ’05) was elected as an officer on the Society of Women Engineers Board of Directors. She will serve a two-year term as secretary.

Rubin

Breanne M. Rubin (A/S ’09, Law ’12) has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch in business organizations including LLCs and partnerships. She works in the Toledo office of Eastman & Smith Ltd. and specializes in business, health care and mergers and acquisitions.

Crystal Stewart (Bus ’06, MS ’07) has been promoted to partner at CST Group in their Virginia office. She specializes in income tax planning, compliance and review, audits of closely held businesses and not-for-profit entities. CST works with clients to provide innovative and effective solutions to accounting, tax and business challenges.

Thomas

Joshua Thomas (A/S ’04, MS ’06) was promoted to assistant professor to associate professor of physics in the School of Arts and Sciences and the Institute for STEM Education at Clarkson University in New York. He is also the director of the Reynolds Observatory.


2010s

Major John C. Altman (MA ’14) was promoted from Captain to the rank of Major on July 4 in the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He will now serve as commander in the Office of Training, Recruitment and Diversity.

Heitman

Jessica Heitman (Eng ’13) and Derek Shultz announced their engagement and upcoming marriage on Oct. 1 at The Kyle House in Fincastle, Va. They are both employed at Ulliman Schutte Construction Company. She is a senior project engineer and he is a senior field engineer.

Eric Hohman (Eng ’12) was hired as engineering manager at WL Port-Land Systems, Inc. He will oversee the engineering department and is responsible for a variety of tasks to support overall support schedules.


2020s

*Lance A. Brunswick (HHS ’20) was sworn in as an officer with the St. Mary’s Police Department in Ohio.
