Your Alma Mater / Optimistic for 2021

By William L. Pierce '99, '09

This time last year, we had no idea what was ahead for the next 365 days.

None of us could have predicted that we would have to eliminate the vast majority of our in-person events. After all, the success of our Alumni Association is due to, in large part, the excitement and energy created when we are in the same space. However, I’ve been pleased with the amount of support we’ve gotten for virtual events. In fact, we have been able to connect with more of you across the country and around the world by providing interesting topics using easily accessible platforms! It is safe to say that virtual engagements will not be going away, but will instead be part of our long-term strategy to stay connected with you.

As we come upon the spring and summer months, I am optimistic that we can slowly begin to plan opportunities for us to gather. We are even more optimistic for hosting the 2021 Art on The Mall in July, the upcoming Rocket football season, and Homecoming in October.

We have come a long way and we miss seeing all of you. As we move forward, the health and safety of our alumni, staff and community will remain our highest priorities. If we each do our part to stay healthy, in-person alumni events will be a reality in our near future.

Thank you for your unwavering support! Stay safe and stay well!
