Resumés: Avoid the cookie-cutter approach

For those hoping to stand out among a large number of applicants in a competitive job market, a resumé can’t be one-size-fits-all. Ideally, a cover letter and resumé are tailored to the position being applied for, and highlight the most relevant skills and experience the applicant brings to the job. UToledo’s career consultants are available to assist alumni with resumé development, improvements or tips on how recruiters screen applications.

Advice for career switchers

Contemplating a career switch is never a simple prospect, especially in the midst of the challenges presented by COVID-19. UToledo Career Services can provide a thorough self-assessment to explore various options and help you build a personalized job search strategy.

How to really take advantage of LinkedIn

Thousands of UToledo alumni have already created a LinkedIn profile. But chances are, those profiles aren’t nearly as effective as they could be, given each individual’s career goals. LinkedIn profiles are now the “first impression” that many employers are receiving from applicants – and UToledo Career Services is here to help that impression become a great one.

Employers looking for talent

Hiring a fellow alumnus is one of the most powerful ways to support the University and increase the value of a Rocket degree. Recruiting from UToledo offers a diverse talent pool from across 300 majors. UToledo Career Services works closely with partners to provide a wide range of hiring opportunities such as job fairs, on-campus tables, event sponsorship, on-campus interviews, workshops and its Virtual Career Center.
