A Different Perspective on Spring Break

This year, during spring break the second week in March, several groups from UToledo are taking this time off as an opportunity to contribute their time toward important causes in communities at home and abroad.

We’re making a difference with alternative spring break activities, including:

Alternative spring break trip

UToledo students volunteer during the 2019 alternative spring break service trip to New York City.

A group of 20 students coordinated by our Office of Student Involvement and Leadership will volunteer throughout the week at homeless shelters, food pantries and other facilities in New York City. Rockets will use this experience to get out of their “comfort zone” to assist with meal preparation and clothing for those in need.

And The Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women is coordinating a day of service at the Beach House Family Shelter in downtown Toledo, which has been helping women and families who are homeless regain independence since 1921. This year, for the first time, a team of UToledo students, faculty and staff will partner with the shelter to better understand their circumstances and find opportunities to make a difference in the critical areas of housing insecurity and gender inequity.

I’m proud of our students for using spring break as a chance to demonstrate UToledo’s commitment to creating a better world.
